WELDER’S TORCH STARTS FIRE

	WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (Mercer Co.) --- A man using a welder’s cutting torch set 
fire to a junk pickup truck when trying to remove the bed from it on Thursday, 
September 11, 1997. The man was able to shut down the gas to the torch and remove the 
welding tanks before the flames spread. The fire scorched a fence, pine trees and surrounding 
materials. Washington Township firefighters had the flames under control in about three minutes.
