SUV hits truck on I-195 median

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP -- A man from Brick suffered a gash to his forehead after he ran into a truck that police said was illegally parked on Interstate 195 West.
About 2 p.m., another vehicle, towing a horse trailer, pulled onto the shoulder of the highway near Exit 8 because the trailer was loose, said Trooper Jeremy Russ of the Wilburtha station.
The motorist took the horse out of the trailer and tried fixing the connection, Russ said. That caused other drivers to slow down and look. One motorist parked a pickup truck on the median opposite the shoulder to look at the horse or to assist the distressed motorist, Russ said.
James Kelsey, 33, of Brick, was approaching the area in his sport utility vehicle. Traffic had slowed and Kelsey drove onto the median because he was unable to stop. Kelsey's car struck the unoccupied pickup truck that was parked in the median, knocking it over.
Kelsey was sent to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton, where he received nine stitches in his head, Russ said. A passenger of his suffered minor injuries. The Washington Township Fire Department responded to the scene treated injuries and assisted where possible.
Kelsey was issued a summons for careless driving. The driver of the parked pickup truck was issued a summons for parking on the median.
