Firefighters Train on Extrication

Robbinsville (Mercer County)- On May 3, 2008 firefighters from the Washington Volunteer Firemen Inc. and Career Staff firefighters that were on duty, attended an ESI Extrication Certification Course held at the fire house. The class was an all day class broken down into 2 parts; a two (2) hour lecture followed by practical evolutions. Firefighters learned new ways of extricating a victim from a car and also refreshed their memory on other ways and techniques.

Great thanks is given to ESI Inc. for taking their time to come out to the department and give us their knowledge and tips.

Text Box: Another box to beware of it's location is the Computer Control Box associated with the impact sensor. If damaged by accident, air bags MAY deploy
Text Box: The size of the sensor box compared to the vehicle itself
Text Box: The size of the sensor box is quite small and may be over looked by many firefighters or first responders.
Text Box: When accessing the hood of the car from the front, beware of the possibility of striking and disconnecting the wires for the sensor which may cause the air bags to deploy
Text Box: When crushed or hit with enough force, this box will send a signal to the computer control box to arm the air bags and to activate them to deploy.
Text Box: Vehicles with Air Bags will have a impact sensor somewhere underneath the hood of the car or throughout the vehicle.
