ROBBINSVILLE PARADE TO HONOR
LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES
 RUNNERS-UP

Event for Softball Team set for 6:30 pm Tuesday

ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. – The Township of Robbinsville will hold a parade Tuesday, August 19 starting at 6:30 p.m. to honor the 12-year-old Robbinsville Little League Softball team, which Wednesday was the runner-up in a hard-fought title game of the Softball World Series.

The parade will start from Pond Road Middle School, where many of the players attend. The route will continue along Pond Road/Washington Boulevard, turning left onto North Street. From there, the route will turn right on Newtown Boulevard and then right on to Lake Drive, concluding at the Town Center gazebo at Lake Circle.

Local residents are asked to look for signs from Robbinsville Township regarding temporary parking restrictions and closed sections of Washington Boulevard during the parade.

Rain date is Wednesday, August 20.

Members of the World Series runner-up team and their coaches will ride in antique cars, with the parade also featuring bands, local fire companies, other Little League teams and representatives, and many other participants. At the parade’s conclusion, the Township will host a cookout sponsored by H&H Gas and Maggi Moos ice cream parlor. Mayor Fried and other area officials will honor the girls from a reviewing stand.

“I encourage everyone to come out for this celebration – the girls have brought a tremendous amount of positive attention to Robbinsville, and they’ve earned a warm welcome home,” said Mayor Dave Fried. “Not only did they thrill us with their terrific play, but they have put Robbinsville on the map.”

Representing the East Region, the Robbinsville girls lost 9-5 Wednesday in the final inning to Simpsonsville, S.C., which represented the South Region. Robbinsville Little League, which had never previously won the state championship at the 12-year-old level, went undefeated through state tournament and in regional tournament in Albany, N.Y. Still, the team was a surprise to tournament watchers with its solid defense, speed at the bases, and attention to manufacturing runs from its opponents’ mistakes.

Hundreds of local fans gathered at Robbinsville High School on consecutive nights to watch the Robbinsville girls on ESPN2. These events also honored the achievements of girls’ softball teams at younger age levels. The 10-year-old team won the state championship, and the 11-year-old team won the District 12 title and lost narrowly to the eventual state champion in Section 3 play.

“Clearly these young women exemplify the qualities of sportsmanship, team spirit, and fair play that we value in our educational community,” said Robbinsville School Superintendent John Szabo, who hosted the simulcasts. “They have earned the respect and admiration of all in Robbinsville and serve as positive role models for other student athletes to emulate!”
