Spring Cleaning Begins Early at The Fire House

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP- With temperatures reaching a high of 55 degrees on March 2, 2007, it was the best time to begin "Spring Cleaning." The sun was out, the wind was calm, the weather was warm, and the engine bay was dirty and needed a cleaning. After lunch at the fire house, it was time to take everything out of the engine bay and give it a good wash out. Platoon 1 was on duty and with the help of everyone including a couple of volunteers, cleared out the engine bay, swept everything up, and began to clean. While using Engine 401 and its Hose Reel as the "power washer," it was a good time to do a little pump training for one of the volunteers. The clean up took a good portion of the afternoon, however it was a nice day to clean. As cleaning came to an end, the fire bell began ringing. Starting off with one EMS call and moments later a 2nd EMS call was dispatched. However, prior to Engine 40 responding to the 2nd EMS call because Rescue 140-10 was committed to the 1st call, Station 40 and a Box alarm were dispatched for a reported structure fire in town on Witmer Way. A 9-1-1 call came into the Police Department from a young child who stated that her house was on fire.  The engine responded and arrived on scene with in minutes along with Deputy 40 and reported nothing showing from the structure. Upon investigation, acting officer Charlie Realmonte requested the assignment to be put on Non-Emergency response. The investigation revealed that a log in the fire place was burning with the flue not open which caused the structure to fill with smoke. Engine 40 along with Deputy 40, Chief 40 and Utility 40 remained on scene to ventilate the house and hand it back over to the residence.
