
Lightning Strike Causes an Attic Fire in Andover
Washington Township (Mercer County)- On
June 27th, 2007 firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at
146-148 Andover Place in the Andover Apartments' in Foxmoore. The cause of the
fire was determined to be caused by the sever thunderstorm that came through the
area during the night hours. Between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. the National
Weather Service, Mount Holly reported heavy rain with thunder at the local
reporting station. A severe thunderstorm watch #460 was issued at 7:25 p.m.
followed by a severe thunderstorm warning for Mercer County at 10:09 p.m.
Washington Township Police patrol arrived on scene to report active fire showing
from the peak of the roof near a vent on the Alpha side. Firefighters arrived on
scene at 10:55 and made quick action with hose advancement and fire suppression.
Tower 17 (Nottingham Fire Company) arrived on scene within seconds to assist
with ventilation and checking for extension. At 11:27 it was determined that the
fire was placed under control and contained to Roof’s interior by the vent and
exterior of the structure. The 1st alarm box brought in Tower 17 (Nottingham
Fire Comp.), Engine 19 (Groveville Fire Comp.), Engine 12 (Mercerville Fire
Comp.), Rescue 43 (West Windsor Fire Comp.) Ladder 42 (East Windsor Fire Comp.),
Engine 82-82 (Allentown Fire Comp.), 141-11 (Hightstown EMS), and Ambulance 82
(Allentown EMS). The investigation was conducted by the Washington Township
Police Department, Washington Township Construction Department and Fire Marshal
40, Captain Dennis Symons Jr.
