
Overturned Tractor Trailer on I-195 near N.J.T.P
Washington Township (MERCER)—Emergency responders were called to the New Jersey Turnpike exit ramp 7A at I-195, on Tuesday April 3, 2007 for an overturned tractor trailer at 6:52 a.m. When firefighters arrived from the Washington Township Fire Department at 6:57 a.m., it was found that the truck was marked that it contained an “oxidizing” agent and the driver of the truck self-extricated and confirmed the truck was carrying hazardous materials. Firefighters treated the driver’s injuries and transported the driver to Robert Wood Johnson University at Hamilton. Firefighters made their way to the cab of the truck to find the shipping papers and it was found that the truck was carrying 44,000 pounds of Tricloroisocyanuric Acid, the fire department then notified the Hamilton Township Hazardous Materials Team along with Hazardous Material Responders from the New Jersey State Police and the NJ Turnpike Authority. After checking the status of the contents the fire department and hazardous materials teams stood by until the truck was up righted and towed away. The New Jersey State Police is investigating the crash.
