Nor' Easter Floods Mercer County

Mercer County- As forecasters and Meteorologists predicted, a Nor' Easter slammed the Garden State and the Tri-State Area today (April 15). With flooding occurring all over the Mercer County area and surrounding counties, fire companies were kept busy through out the day with Dewatering assignments, Fire alarms, and occasional Dwelling Structure fires. The rain and winds are supposed to remain in the area until late tomorrow.

Tonight: Periods of rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 41. North wind 5 to 8 mph increasing to between 13 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Monday: Periods of rain, mainly before noon. High near 48. Breezy, with a west wind between 17 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

 

Major flooding expected along Assunpink Creek

The National Weather Service has upgraded its warning Sunday afternoon that major flooding now is expected for the Assunpink Creek in Trenton through Monday afternoon.

At 2:01 p.m. Sunday, the creek was at 9.3 feet with moderate flooding occuring. The flood stage for the creek is 7.0 feet.

Continued heavy rain is increase the creeks overflow through parts of Trenton. Mulberry Street floods at 10.0 feet.

With continued heavy rain pounding central New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, The National Weather Service (NWS) Sunday moring has issued a flood warning for The Assunpink Creek in Trenton through Monday evening and for Neshaminy Creek near Langhorne in Bucks County, Pa.

A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or alreday has been reported.

With storm totals already at 1 to 2 inches of rain Sunday morning and another 1 to 2 inches expected to fall by evening, Asuunpink Creek is experiencing minor flooding, while moderate flooding is predicted later Sunday. Flood stage in Trenton is 7.0 feet. The creek is expected to continue to rise to 9.1 feet by Sunday evening, then fall below flood stage late Monday evening. At 10.0 feet, Mulberry Street floods, accoring to the NWS.

Additionally, major flooding is forcast for the Neshaminy Creek.

Those living near affected areas should monitor conditions carefully and take action if flooding occurs. Never drive through flooded areas or around barricades -- floodwater usually are deeper than they appear. Authorities caution that most flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Turn around -- don't drown.
