New Jersey Turnpike Accident


 

        WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (Mercer) - At 8:27 AM on Saturday November 19, 2005, the Washington Township Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident with reported entrapment on the New Jersey Turnpike.  Fire Department units arrived at mile marker 60.6 Northbound and found a three vehicle accident.  One Sport Utility Vehicle was overturned at the scene, however there was no entrapment.  Firefighters immediately began caring for numerous injured drivers and passengers.  Ultimately, five patients required treatment and transport to the hospital.  Washington Township Fire Department EMS transported the most seriously injured to the Capital Health System at Fuld Trauma Center in Trenton.  Washington Township was assisted at the scene by two Mercer County Paramedic units, one ambulance from Hamilton Township and one ambulance from Hightstown.  Allentown Fire Department responded with one engine and assisted with patient care and mitigation of fluids.  Traffic was reportedly backed up to the Burlington County line as two of the three north bound lanes had to be shut down during the incident.  New Jersey State Police is investigating.
