Serious Accident

 

            WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – The Washington Township Fire Department was called to an accident where a 9-1-1 caller reported a car was into a tree and on fire. Firefighters were dispatched at 11:12 p.m. on Sunday December 18, 2005 to Windsor-Edinburgh Road near the township line with West Windsor. When firefighter/EMTs arrived they found the car on fire and the driver trapped, the driver was quickly extricated from the burning vehicle using rapid extrication techniques. Police helped keep the fire at bay assisting firefighters with dry chemical extinguishers until the engine could arrive.

Firefighters transported the driver via fire department ambulance with Mercer County Paramedics to Capital Health System's Fuld Campus, Trauma Unit. The passenger of the car also reported injuries was transported by the East Windsor First Aid Squad also to the same hospital.

The West Windsor Fire Company was also called to the scene to provide assistance. The Washington Township Police Department is investigating the crash along with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office. It was reported that the driver of the vehicle passed away at the hospital.

Firefighters remained on scene with lighting for the accident investigation until 1:58 a.m. Monday.
