UPPER FREEHOLD (Monmouth) - The Washington Township Fire Department
responded mutual aid to Upper Freehold today to assist at a motor
vehicle accident with entrapment. Washington firefighters were
dispatched at 12:32 PM to milepost 8.7 on I-195 just east of the
Washington Township border with Monmouth County. Allentown Fire
Department was already on scene and had just began extricating the
driver of a van that had struck a tree head-on. The van had been
traveling West and crossed over into the Eastbound lanes before
striking the tree on the Eastbound shoulder. Washington and
Allentown firefighters made quick work of extricating the male
driver whose legs were pinned under the dashboard. The patient was
treated at the scene by local paramedics and was transported to the
Capital Health System at Fuld Trauma Center. No further details
were available. The accident is under investigation by New Jersey
State Police.
