EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. —The electricity and gas were shut down at Building 10 in the Dorchester Arms Apartments last night after a first-floor apartment fire spread to a second floor unit damaging the building's roof.
Fire Chief Kevin Brink said seven assisting fire companies helped contain the two-alarm blaze within an hour after it was dispatched around 9:20 p.m.
Brink reported the first floor tenants were not at home when the blaze began. He said all the residents living in the 18-unit building were safely evacuated and there were no injuries reported.
Dorchester Arms is located near the intersection of Dorchester Drive and Old Trenton Road.
The township's fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, Brink said.
Utility service is expected to be resumed today.
Assisting fire companies included East Windsor Fire Company No. 2, Hightstown, West Windsor, Plainsboro, Washington Township, Cranbury and Applegarth.
