WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Six people, including four children, were injured yesterday when two cars crashed on Route 130 just south of the East Windsor border.
Four ambulances rushed to Capital Health System at Fuld hospital in Trenton in the twilight hours carrying a total of nine people, eight dressed in their Sunday best, apparently coming from church.
Medicishi Taylor had five passengers in his car when it crashed. A young boy, a young girl, two infants and an older woman were injured, said Tymika Hicks of Lindenwold, Taylor's sister, who was driving in a car behind him.
Only Taylor was unhurt, Washington Township police said.
The four children suffered injuries, but all were conscious at the hospital. The young girl complained of stomach pains and the boy was taken by stretcher into the emergency room with apparent injuries to the head and neck.
Taylor lost control when he turned his attention from the road to the children in the back of his car as they made noise, police Sgt. Charles Petty said.
When Taylor turned his head, the car veered onto the grass median separating Route 130 north and south near Hankins Road. The car continued into oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle, Petty said.
The female driver of the second vehicle also was injured, police said.
The accident occurred approximately 4:35 p.m. Washington Township and East Windsor police responded.
Washington Township, East and West Windsor and Hightstown ambulances responded to the scene within minutes.
For more than an hour, traffic backed up in both directions as police investigated.
Hicks came to Fuld in a Hightstown Rescue Squad ambulance carrying an infant even though his car did not crash. Hicks said they were uninjured.
