WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (MERCER)—Firefighters  rescued a family of ducklings again from the Foxmoor Shopping Center Area on Saturday June 22, 2002. Firefighters were called to the scene by the police department at 7 a.m. to rescue the trapped ducklings that fell and were separated by their distraught mother. When firefighters arrived they found the mother duck panic-stricken but mom stayed close by until firefighters were able to remove the grate and make the decent to pull the ducks from the storm sewer. This time firefighters were prepared with boxes to capture the babies and mother and relocate them to the wetlands area behind the Washington Township Fire Department on Route 130. After the capture the mom and her babies were placed in the fire engine and given a ride back to the firehouse then released to the wild. The location was chosen as a safe place for the wild ducks compared to the busy shopping center and the surrounding construction of the Town Center. The Washington Township Police Department assisted capturing the ducklings and mom.
