WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (MERCER)--A single car accident injured one and disrupted power around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2002. Apparently a car traveling North Bound on Route 130 was cut off and the driver lost control, hit a utility pole severing the pole at the bottom and knocking out a phase in the power grid. The fire department responded and treated the injured person and transported him to Robert Wood Johnson at Hamilton Hospital. Firefighters on the engine provided scene safety and lit up the accident scene. Public Service Electric and Gas was called to repair the pole and power was not fully restored until approximately 10 a.m. when the phase of the power grid was restored. The power was knocked out at the fire department which was on the same power grid, luckily the fire department has an emergency generator which supplied emergency power for over 8 hours until the power was fully restored. The Washington Township Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
