EAST WINDSOR - A small fire erupted in the attic of a home on Pineybranch Road yesterday but was quickly extinguished, township fire officials said.

A problem with the electrical wiring for an attic fan was believed to have caused the 6 p.m. blaze, said Chief Kevin Brink of East Windsor Fire Co. No. 1. He said a neighbor called 911 after spotting smoke coming from the two-story house.

Firefighters from East Windsor No. 1, Washington Township, Hightstown, Cranbury and Plainsboro fire companies responded and contained the flames to a small area of the attic and adjacent wall, Brink said. He said firefighters had to pull apart some of the Sheetrock to make sure the fire had not spread.

No one was injured, Brink said, and damage was so limited that residents were not displaced. He said electrical service was turned off to the damaged part of the house, but power to the rest of the residence was unaffected.
