WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (MERCER)--A late afternoon accident on Monday May 13, 2002 sent a car flying into a gas pump knocking the pump over and putting a gas station on Route 130 out of business for hours. The Washington Township Fire Department responded to the scene for a gasoline leaking from the broken pipes on the pump around 5 p.m. Upon arrival the fire department's EMTs were also notified that a child had been injured in the accident and began treating the child. Absorbent material was placed around the broken pump to help clean up any spilled gasoline and prevent further spillage. EMTs treated the injured child at the scene and released the child's parent to seek further medical treatment. The Washington Township Police Department is investigating the accident and provided traffic control.
