WEST WINDSOR - An attic fire left a family of at least three temporarily homeless yesterday, but no one was injured.
The fire began about 9:15 a.m. at a ranch-style home in the first block of Harrison Lane, said Gary Tindall, chief of West Windsor Fire Co.
A neighbor and a landscaper both noticed smoke coming from the roofline of the home, called police and made sure no one was home, Tindall said.
Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the attic, where the blaze was contained. Much of the home suffered heat and water damage. It took about 90 minutes to bring the blaze under control, Tindall said.
About 40 firefighters from West Windsor, Princeton Junction, Plainsboro, Washington Township, East Windsor and Lawrence Road fire companies responded to the blaze.
The fire is not considered suspicious, but remains under investigation, Tindall said.
